Ruby's father was Andrew Slice and her mother was Lillie Shealy. Her paternal grandfather was Joseph Slice; her maternal grandparents were John Calvin Shealy and Alice Maquilla Amick. She had two brothers and a sister, named Lloyd, Leon and Altha.-
