Mary was born about 1849 in Arkansas.1 Mary's father was David Alexander Shaw and her mother was Sarah A. Kinard. Her maternal grandparents were Graham Kinard and Eve Sease. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Robert C., John, Lou, Martha Jane and Melisia. She was the oldest of the six children.-
