Gilbert of Lotharingia was born about 0890.1 Gilbert of Lotharingia's father was Regnier I Longneck of Hennegau Duke of Lorraine and his mother was Ermentrude (Hersent) Abbess of Hasnon. His paternal grandparents were Giselbert of Maasgau Ct of Darnau and Ermengarde de Burgundy; his maternal grandparents were Charles II the Bald King of West Franks and Ermentrude de Orléans. He had a brother named Regnier II. He was the older of the two children. He died in Echternach.1 General Notes
