Ira's father was Edd Boland and his mother was Ary Carter. His paternal grandparents were William Boland and Louisa Carter; his maternal grandparents were Frank Carter and Louise Boland. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Melvin, U. L., Vernon Jenks, William, Frank, Yvonne, Louise, Maybelle, Carrie and Clara.-
