Eugene's father was Marion Boland and his mother was Alice Smith. His paternal grandparents were Ephriam Walter Boland and Susan Bowers. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Carl Bertrand, Emmerson, Walter, Marion Marie and Clyde. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Mannie and Emma.-
