John B. was born in 1841. John B.'s father was John Stanley and his mother was Margaret Blackburn. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Stanley and Unity Crew; his maternal grandparents were David Blackburn and Margaret Stanley. He had six sisters named Elisha, Mary A., Sarah, Elizabeth, Esther and Unity. He was the youngest of the seven children. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Thomas H., Samuel, James, Chlotilda, Deborah, Unity and Jane.-
