Margaret Young's father was Devall Payne and her mother was Hannah Innes Brent. Her paternal grandparents were William Payne and Susannah Clark. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named Devall, Thomas Young, William Pierce, Hugh Brent, Innes Baxter, Benjamin, John, Elizabeth Baxter, Mary, Penelope, Alicia Ann and Susan Clark.-
