Mary was born on December 22nd, 1766 in Goochland Co., Virginia. Mary's father was Humphrey Parrish and her mother was Elizabeth Lane. Her paternal grandparents were Humphrey Parrish and Mary Morton Hamilton; her maternal grandparents were John Layne and Elizabeth Ayers. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Robert, Humphrey, George, Dabney, David, Constance, Elizabeth and Sally. She was the fourth youngest of the nine children.-
