Mary was born on December 23rd, 1723 in New Kent Co., Virginia. Mary's father was Charles Massie and her mother was Ann Macon. Her paternal grandparents were Peter Massie and Penelope Ashley Cooper; her maternal grandparents were Gideon Macon and Martha Woodward. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named Charles, Gordon, Peter, David, Thomas, James, Nathaniel, Anna, Elizabeth and Cecelia. She was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.-
