Nellie was born in 1897 in Richmond, VA. Nellie's father was Owen Francis Marrin and her mother was Elenora Tinsley. Her maternal grandparents were Albert Newton Tinsley and Elizabeth B. Smith. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Owen J., John, Joseph T., Edward Reeves, Marie and Elizabeth. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.-
