Martha was born on October 4th, 1828. Martha's father was John C. Ladd and her mother was Martha E. Mountcastle. Her paternal grandparents were William Ladd and Mary Crew. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named Samuel N., deLafayette, Henry Melvin, John F., William Joseph, Robert Mountcastle, David C., Amanda, Mary Ann and Margaret.-
