Martha's father was Patrick Henry and her mother was Elvira Cabell. Her paternal grandparents were Patrick Henry and Dorothea Dandridge; her maternal grandparents were William Cabell and Anne Carrington. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Patrick, John, Elvira Ann Patrick, Nannie, Rosa, Eliza and Ellen. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, and also two half-siblings of unknown gender, named Charles, Ellen Carter, ? and ?.-
