Her paternal grandparents were John Cocke and Lucy Herbert Claiborne; her maternal grandparents were John Baytop Scott and Elizabeth Coleman. She had four brothers and a sister, named William T. S., Edward A. R., James Thomas B., John and Lucy Herbert.-
