Herbert Claiborne's father was John Cocke and his mother was Lucy Herbert Claiborne. His paternal grandparents were Richard Cocke and Elizabeth Ruffin; his maternal grandparents were Augustine Claiborne and Mary Herbert. He had a brother named John Ruffin. He died in 1814 in Halifax Co., Virginia.-
