William Howard HAYES

William Howard was born on June 22nd, 1911 in TN.¹ William Howard's father was Pink HAYES and his mother was Mollie. His maternal grandparents were James ALMON and Frances RAWLINGS. He had a brother and seven sisters, named James Morgan, Anna B. or Anner, Etta Tennessee, Dora Ellie, Hessie, Minnie L., Maggie Mae and Earline. He was the youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 79 on March 18th, 1991 in Rossville, WALKER County, GA. His burial was in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Cemetery, Rossville, WALKER County, GA.²

General Notes
- Howard did not finish school. According to his wife, Vada, Howard was in school through the sixth grade.
  
  He was a very accurate basketball shooter and obtained the nickname, "Dead eye Dick" as a result.
  
  He was drafted into the army during WWII and served in Italy as an artillery spotter. While on duty he was incapacitated with severe kidney problems caused by kidney stones.
  
  He was returned to the United States and was hospitalized for two years for treatment of the problem.
  
  While visiting with Vada HAYES in June 1999, she said that she was married December 17, 1933. This conflicts with the first date that she gave me which was December 28, 1932.
