John was born on November 27th, 1905 in 11 Scarlow Street,Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire,Scotland.1  John's father was Alexander Percy and his mother was Ann Archibald.  His paternal grandparents were William John Percy and Sarah Wallace; his maternal grandparents were John Archibald and Annie Harbison. He had a brother and two sisters, named Alex, Jeanie and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the four children.
