Атанас was born in January 1865 in Велико Търново.  Атанас's father is Тодор Минчев and his mother is Винития Минчева.  His maternal grandparents are Ив. Ешекчоолу (Шекерджоглу) and Анастасия Ив. Егискчоолу. He had two sisters named Весела and Кинка.  He died at the age of 71 in May 1936 in София.
