James was born in 1842.  James' father was Samuel Chessor and his mother was Evaline Coble.  His paternal grandfather was James William Chessor and his paternal grandmother is Bessie Cavender; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Peter Coble and Jemima. He had three brothers and nine sisters, named Jesse Adam, Adam J., John Thomas, Mima, Polly A., Nan, Sally B., Agnes, Eliza, Susan M., Rosa M. and Viola.  He was the oldest of the thirteen children.  He died at the age of 15 in 1857.
