Gerrit Nieuwoudt was born on February 21st, 1850 in Paarl.  Gerrit Nieuwoudt's father was Albertus Daniel Johannes van Blerk and his mother was Margaretha Magdalena Nieuwoudt (van Blerk).  His paternal grandparents were Johannes Petrus van Blerk and Geertruida Elizabeth Louw (van Blerk); his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Nieuwoudt and Gertrude (Nieuwoudt). He had five brothers and five sisters, named Johannes Pretus Isaak, Albertus Daniel Johannes, Isaak Christiaan, Jacobus Johannes, Nicolaas Willem, Magdelena Johanna, Gertruida Elizabeth, Margaritha Magdalena, Margaretha Berrendina and Aletta Hendrina Henrietta.  He was the third oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 55 on March 24th, 1905 in Paarl.
