His paternal grandparents were Johannes Petrus van Blerk and Geertruida Elizabeth Louw (van Blerk); his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Nieuwoudt and Gertrude (Nieuwoudt). He had five brothers and five sisters, named Johannes Pretus Isaak, Gerrit Nieuwoudt, Isaak Christiaan, Jacobus Johannes, Nicolaas Willem, Magdelena Johanna, Gertruida Elizabeth, Margaritha Magdalena, Margaretha Berrendina and Aletta Hendrina Henrietta. He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children. He died due to in Zimbabwe.General Notes
