Frederick was born in 1845 in Portsmouth, UK.  Frederick's father was George Frederick Wellington SCOTT and his mother was Mary Howard Elford TREVENA.  His paternal grandparents were William SCOTT and Lavinia. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, George Frederick, Henry, Lavinia, Mary and Jane.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
