Mary was born in 1834 in Capel, Kent.  Mary's father was Robert MARTIN and her mother was Mary WARRINGTON.  Her paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Ann; her maternal grandparents are James WARRINGTON and Elizabeth. She had a brother and four sisters, named James, Ann, Eliza, Ellen and Rebecca.  She was the oldest of the six children.
