Ellen was born in 1848 in Tudely, Kent.  Ellen's father was Robert MARTIN and her mother was Mary WARRINGTON.  Her paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Ann; her maternal grandparents are James WARRINGTON and Elizabeth. She had a brother and four sisters, named James, Mary, Ann, Eliza and Rebecca.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
