Alfred was born in 1828 in Marden, Kent.  Alfred's father was William LADUMS and his mother was Mary ANSON.  His paternal grandparents were John LADAMS and Mary. He had six brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Stephen, Charles, Henry, James, Mary and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the nine children.
