Matilda was born on September 26th, 1829 in Shelfanger.  Matilda's father was William FARROW and her mother was Susan BALE.  Her maternal grandparents were Timothy BALE and Mary CLARKE. She had three brothers and a sister, named John, Timothy, Walter and Ruth.  She was the oldest of the five children.
