John was born on January 27th, 1833 in Shelfanger.  John's father was William FARROW and his mother was Susan BALE.  His maternal grandparents were Timothy BALE and Mary CLARKE. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Timothy, Walter, Matilda and Ruth.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
