Jessie was born in 1886 in Hackney.  Jessie's father was Frederick DODD and her mother was Sarah Elizabeth PEAD.  Her maternal grandparents were James Durdant PEAD and Elizabeth LOCKYER. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named Frederick Charles, Henry James, Alfred William, George Robert, William Frederick, Frederick Walter, Walter, Elizabeth Jane, Emma, Alice Louisa and Sarah Amelia.  She was the second youngest of the twelve children.
