Martha was born in 1720 in Lenham, Kent.  Martha's father was John DENCE and her mother was Elisabeth LEWIS.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert DENCE and Elizabeth. She had three brothers and two sisters, named John, Lewis, George, Elizabeth and Mary.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
