Hellen was born in 1650 in Cranbrook, Kent.  Hellen's father was John DENCE and her mother was Ellen BEXLIE.  Her paternal grandparents were John DENCE and Joane SMYTHE; her maternal grandfather was John BEXLIE. She had two brothers named John and Robert.  She was the oldest of the three children.
