Ellen was born in 1862 in Bridgwater District.  Ellen's father was James BOARD and her mother was Ellen JARVIS.  Her paternal grandparents were James BOARD and Sarah; her maternal grandfather was Robert JARVIS. She had three brothers and a sister, named James, John Sydney, Sidney Robert and Charlotte Ann.  She was the oldest of the five children.
