John was born on July 13th, 1798 in Fauquier, VA.  John's father was George Jones and his mother was Mary Rhodes.  His paternal grandparents were Solomon Jones and Elizabeth Neville. He had seven brothers and a sister, named George, James, Tholemiah, William, Solomon, Samuel, Daniel and Letitia.  He was the eighth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 74 on January 14th, 1873 in Henry, Kentucky.
