William was born on July 5th, 1829 in Alabama.  William's father was John Diamond and his mother was Jane McNeil.  His maternal grandparents were James McNeill and Jane Smilie. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Luke, James, John , Enoch, Benjamin, Mary, Nancy and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 38 on June 30th, 1868.
