Benjamin was born on July 18th, 1838.  Benjamin's father was John Diamond and his mother was Jane McNeil.  His maternal grandparents were James McNeill and Jane Smilie. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Luke, William, James, John , Enoch, Mary, Nancy and Sarah.  He was the seventh oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 4 on September 5th, 1842.
