Florenciscus was born on November 26th, 1838 in Aarschot.  Florenciscus' father was Philippus De Preter and his mother was Maria-Theresia Moons.  His paternal grandparents were Antoon-Josephus De Preter and Maria-Theresia Muyts; his maternal grandparents were Petrus-Josephus Moons and Francisca Cornelia Patteef. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Franciscus, Victor, Rosalia, Eulogia, Eugenia and Elisabeth.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
