Samuel was born in year 1825 in St Enoder, Cornwall.  Samuel's father was Peter Coad and his mother was Elizabeth Bullock.  His paternal grandparents were John Coad and Ann Hender; his maternal grandparents were  George Bullock and  Ann Leverton.  He was the oldest of four children.  He had a brother and two sisters, named James, Elizabeth and Sophia.
