Beatrice, known as Beattie, was born on December 14th, 1904 in Shepherd St, Darlington, NSW. Beattie's father was Charles William Groom and her mother was Caroline Beatrice Walker. Her paternal grandparents were George Groom and Kezia (Lisa) Plumb; her maternal grandparents were William Barnabas Walker and Fanny Frances Gates. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Charlie, Bert, Alice, Myra, Bobby and Fanny.-
