Otto was born on June 22nd, 1843 in Pfortzheim, Alemania. Otto's father was 151 Christian Karl Hepp Dietrich and his mother was Emma Karoline Dittler. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Wilhelm, Adolf, Karl, Robert, Hermann, Gustav, Reinhard Georg, Marie and Emilie. He was the fourth youngest of the ten children. He died at the age of 78 on September 9th, 1921 in Pfortzheim, Alemania.

      Debido a que el único hijo varon de su hermano Karl, Bernhard, decidió ser Guardaborques y no tuvo interes en la fábrica de su padre y como Otto tuvo solamente hijas mujeres, la firma fue vendida en 1914 al Sr. Albert Lange que mantuvo la marca "Gbr. Hepp" Hoy en día la fábrica pertenece a la muy conocida y prestigiada firma VMF, que mantiene la marca Hepp.
