Robert, known as Robert, was born in 1901.  Robert's father was Elijah BELL and his mother was Nora Ella CARODISKEY.  His paternal grandparents were Montgomery BELL and Catharine BATDER; his maternal grandparents are Enos CARODISKEY and Anna GEARHART. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Fredrick, Allen, Jesse, Theodore, Miles, Grace, Mabel and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the nine children.
