    In the name of God, A men.  The third day of January, 1782, I John
    SKIDMORE, of Hempstead in Queens County, Yoeman, being now advanced in
    years and very weak in body.  All my j ust debts and funeral charges to be
    paid.  Unto Elizabeth, my dearly beloved wife, one cow and all the
    household furniture that she brought to me.  The re mainder of my estate
    to be sold, the proceeds to be disposed of as follows: Unto Elizabeth,
    my wife oe50 (to be in lieu of her Dower); unto my well-belov ed son,
    Whitehead, oe5; unto my well-beloved daugher, Phebe Vannostrand, the now
    wife of Evert Vannostrand, oe30; unto my well-beloved son, Daniel, oe10
    if he shall be living to receive it after my decease; should he die
    before that time, then oe50 only to go to his children in equal shares,
    his wife to have the use of said sun towards the support and bringing up
    of said childre n.  Unto my well-beloved son Thomas, one bond or
    obligation which I have agai nst him conditioned for the payment of
    oe100.  My executors shall not demand the money.  Unto my beloved
    grandaughter, Phebe Skidmore, oe10.  The remainde r of my estate not
    before given away to be equally divided among all my child ren, that is:
    my daughter, Jane Smith, my son, Whitehead Skidmore, my daught er, Phebe
    Vannnostrand, my son, John Skidmore, my son, Thomas Skidmore, and m y son,
    Daniel Skidmore.  Whereas my son, Samuel Skidmore, is now already dead ,
    the part of division that should have fallen to him to be equally divided
    among his children.  I make my son-in-law, Evert Vannostrand, my cousins,
    Jo seph Skidmore, and Benjamin Everit, executors.  My granddaughter Phebe,

    He left a will dated Jan 3, 1782 and proved Nov 4, 1782.  It names wife Elizabeth, son Whitehead, daughter Phebe Vannostrand, "the now wife of Evert Van Nostrand", sons Daniel and Thomas, grandaughter Phebe Skidmore, the daughter of John Skidmore, daughter Jane Smith, son John Skidmore and son Samuel Skidmore, deceased (referring to his children).  He names his cousins Joseph Skidmore and Benjamin Everit as executors.
