Hannah was born in 1827 in North Carolina, USA. Hannah's father was Jonathan Rigsby and her mother was Mary Pauline Sanders. Her paternal grandfather was William Rigsby; her maternal grandparents were John Sanders and Celia Johnson. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Aaron L, Richard, Margaret, Annis, Lucinda, Paralee, Rebecca J and Mary. She is the second oldest of the nine children.-
