Minnie was born in 1908 in Tennessee, USA.1 Minnie's father was John Mckinney Houston and her mother was Vera Roberta Sweat Leatherwood. Her paternal grandparents were James Mckinney Houston and Martha Davis; her maternal grandfather is Sweat and her maternal grandmother was Caldonise Callie Massengale. She had four brothers and four sisters, named John Leverne "Vernon", Herman, Norman, Alton Leo, Euphie Mae, Ester, Ruby and Vallie. She is the second oldest of the nine children.-
