Mamie "Polly" was born on March 24th, 1917 in Lamar, Benton, Mississippi, USA. Mamie "Polly"'s father was William Lee "Bud" Allen and her mother was Rachel Annie Feathers. Her paternal grandparents were James H "Jim" Allen and Margaret Jane Skelton; her maternal grandparents were Jesse Feathers and Sarah Jane Bowles. She had two brothers and eleven sisters, named John Henry "Peck", Relay "Slick", Maggie Lee, Lottie Jane, Vennie Myrtle, Anna Mae, Irene "Maude", Lorene "Mollie", Lillie, Wayne, Clarice Burnette "Sally", Verlena "Sweetie" and Ida Belle. She was the sixth youngest of the fourteen children. She died at the age of 92 on February 18th, 2010 in Ripley, Tippah, Mississippi, USA.General Notes
Mamie Allen Byrd Mamie Allen Byrd, 92, of Lamar, died Feb. 18, 2010 in Ripley. She was the widow of James Leonard Byrd, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a factory worker. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Clear Creek Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Robert Buse officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She leaves three sons, Allen Byrd, Lowrance Byrd, both of Lamar, Larry Byrd of Ripley; two daughters, Connie Skelton of Ashland, Sarah Hicks of Lamar; a sister, Ida Bell Ford of Collierville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Lewis Byrd; and grandchildren Ricky Skelton, Bennie Hicks Jr., Christopher Hicks.
