Fraser was born about 1850 in Hillington, Norfolk, England.1   Fraser's father was Fraser Erskine Lyon and his mother was Anne Guthrie.  His paternal grandparents are George Lyon and Elizabeth Anderson. He had three brothers and three sisters, named George, John, Isaac, Jane, Elizabeth and Mary.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.
