Elizabeth was born about 1845 in Hillington, Norfolk, England.1   Elizabeth's father was Fraser Erskine Lyon and her mother was Anne Guthrie.  Her paternal grandparents are George Lyon and Elizabeth Anderson. She had four brothers and two sisters, named George, Fraser, John, Isaac, Jane and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.
