Wiiliam was born in 1934.  Wiiliam's father was John Williamson and his mother was Ethel Shortridge Grierson.  His paternal grandparents were William Brownlie Williamson and Barbara JESSIE Smith; his maternal grandparents are Grierson and Shortridge.  He is the oldest of two children.  He has a brother named Norman.
