Josep was born on October 25th, 1868 in El Palau d'Anglesola (Pla d'Urgell). Lleida. Catalunya. and his baptism took place on October 26th, 1868 at El Palau d'Anglesola (Pla d'Urgell). Lleida. Catalunya. Església de Sant Joan Baptista conducted by Joan Pons (Ecònom).  His godfather was Gerònim Llobera (casat) d'El Palau and his godmother was Antònia Gou (donzella i tieta) d'El Palau.  Josep's father was Gabriel Fontanet Farnell and his mother was Magdalena Gou Llobera.  His paternal grandparents were Pau Fontanet Yyyy and Rosa Farnell Yyyy; his maternal grandparents were Jaume Gou Yyyy and Maria Llobera Yyyy. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Jaume, Pere, Gerònim, Nnnn and Rosa.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
