Russel was born on June 3rd, 1921 in Hammondville, Bullskin township, Fayette County,  Pennsylvania, USA.1  Russel's father was George Leonard Hebenthal and his mother was Laura May Smith (Hebenthal).  His paternal grandparents were Charles Sumner Hebenthal and Margaret Hart (Hebenthal); his maternal grandparents were John W Smith and Mary E ? (Smith). He had four sisters named Dolores, Lorna, Ramona and Moyia.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 81 on May 18th, 2003 in Pensacola, Florida, USA.  He was buried in Pensacola Memorial Gardens, 7433 Pine Forest Road in Pensacola, FL.2 2

Russel and Mayble were married in a religious & civil ceremony.  Russel adopted his two stepsons named William and Van.
