Margaret was born on February 12th, 1839 in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.  Margaret's father was Andrew Fraser and her mother was Martha Cooper.  Her paternal grandparents are James Fraser and Jean Lorimer; her maternal grandparents are William Cooper and Martha Fraser.  She had four brothers and four sisters, named James, William, Andrew, Charles, Martha, Anne, Leslie and Elizabeth.  She was the sixth oldest of the nine children.
