Waldemar was born in 1350.  Waldemar's father was Valdemar IV King of Denmark and his mother was Hedvig of Schlesvig.  His paternal grandparents were Christoper II King of Denmark and Euphemie of Pomerania. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Christopher Duke of Laaland, Ingeborg, Margaret I Queen of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, Margaret and Catherine.  He was the fifth oldest of the six children.
