Katarina was born in 1584.  Katarina's father was Charles IX King of Sweden and her mother was Maria of Palatinate-Kleeburg.  Her paternal grandparents were Gustalf I (Gustav Eriksson "Gustav Vasa") King and Regent of Sweden and Margareta Leijonhufvud. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Gustav II Adolf the Great (Gustavus Adolphus) King of Sweden, Duke Carl Philip and Maria Elizabeth.  She died at the age of 54 in 1638.
